The Scene

by Theresa Rebeck

The other opportunity presented itself as part of a class with director Paul Allen. The task was to assign roles to each class member and then to film a scene for a workshop. It was from a play, a black comedy appropriately titled, The Scene, by Theresa Rebeck. In it, Stella walks in on her husband Charlie, who is having an affair with another woman. It just so happened that acting volunteers included John, another male actor, and a female actor. And so, Stella became Steven. Though Charlie was the main character, John really dug into his rage and indignation for the role, which may or may not have led to the final shot resting on him!
